Competition Details


1. THEME: RACIAL HARMONY - JOINT HOPES, SHARED MEMORIES


2. EXHIBITION DATES AND VENUE
The prize presentation will be held at Rivervale Primary School commemorating Racial Harmony Day on the 21st July 2011.
Winning entries will be exhibited at Rivervale Primary School on 21st of July.


3. RULES AND REGULATIONS
The competition is open to 2 categories of students namely students from the primary and secondary schools.
Each participant is allowed to submit up to a maximum of 2 entries for this competition and may only be awarded one prize in this competition.
Rivervale Primary School reserves the right of use to submitted photos to this competition.


4. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS

  • Photos are taken by you.
  • Photos must be submitted in digital.
  • Photos manipulation is limited to:
  • Moderate Sharpening and enhancements to colour.
  • No post-production filters allowed. This includes infra red, gauze, mosaic, vivid, etc.
  • Failure to comply with rules on photograph manipulation may result in disqualification of entry.
  • Photos are 2,000 pixels (minimum) wide or tall, in JPG format and under 10 MB each.
  • Participants must retain copies of entries in highest resolution. Request of high-resolution copies will be upon short-listing for printing.
  • Participants are to submit their entries and other required information via emailing and should submit all entries together if there are more than one entry for submission.
  • Email your entries to the following email address: RHD.Photo.Competition.submissions@picasaweb.com. Use the ‘Subject’ line to add in school name. The filename of submitted entry should be in the following format: “School Name - Name of pupil.jpg” (eg. “Rivervale Primary – Tan Wee Teck.jpg”)
  • All entries must be submitted by 7th July, 2359hrs.
  • Late entries will not be accepted.



5. JUDGING CRITERIA
All photos will be judged in accordance to the theme, creativity and artistry.


6. AWARDS
There will be 3 top prizes for the Primary and Secondary Category respectively.
Judge(s)’ decision is final and no correspondence shall be entertained.
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to change or replace prizes with another prize should the featured prize(s) become unavailable.




JUDGE’S PROFILE
Edwin Cheong (b. 1973, Singapore) began his career as an architect after receiving his Master of Architecture from the National University of Singapore in 2000. His relentless interest in 3-dimensional visual arts expanded his artistic explorations to fields of furniture, sculptures, kinetics and artistic lighting implementation on built environments.


Along with his art practice, Edwin has served as Guest-Judge for local TV station MediaCorp’s art competitions and has contributed numerous articles on Environmental Art to popular local press, Lianhe Zaobao. He serves/served as a design and art educator in Singapore’s art institutions such as the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and the former LaSalle-SIA College of Arts. In February 2010, among other art and design awards he had already won, his work entitled “Breathe” was commissioned to commemorate Singapore’s hosting of the first ever Youth Olympic Games (YOG). A collaboration between the Urban Redevelopment Authority, City Developments Limited and Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee, it is the first few public art sculptures to be showcased under the new Marina Bay Public Art Programme. The 33ft tall iconic monumental-size kinetic sculptures stands on Singapore’s prime land overlooking the magnificent Marina Bay.
