FOR THE SCHOOL

NV ICC has been so contributive over the past few years. we've revamped the club too many times. from being just a av/media crew to multimedia club to now, info-comm. the school can't deny our contributions any one bit of our achievements.

before every event in school, our PA crew will be the first to arrive. we are also the last to leave. And what do we get? putting up with these and not flaring up at the school has been a very huge concession.

since i was in secondary 1, my seniors have already brought a fairly large amount of glory to the school. but sadly, the school did not appreciate them. we go for at least 2 competitions every year. and we win. (one example is the MOS competition. without fail, we come in top 5 in north zone.)

yuanjie, randy, lijin and teekoon all have come in TOP, and has gone overseas, representing SG and our school for the world skills. but what has the school done? we only give them applause for 1 min after getting the certificates in front of the school. compared to the other CCAs, they get instant applause and an entire speech about them winning.

90% of the photos in the year book are taken by our photographers. but who do they credit? who plays the national anthem and school song every morning/assembly?

we have placed in so much effort into building this club up. improving ourselves and the training system and the entire club management, and yet still get neglected. we have fought for the club to not get closed down a few years back(due to them saying that our club not 'contributing' to the school which is totally untrue).

i can't sit back here and watch the club get their death sentence because of the school's placement of sports/uniform group/performing arts. are we not important? can they survive without our PA crew going to school early in the morning, skipping lessons due to sound checks and setting/packing ups? who are going to edit their videos? who's going to help them connect their laptops for assemblies?

do they expect us to continue to be taken advantage of? we are clearly taken for granted. Jonathan said that "starving us of new blood is just a slow death sentence." which applies to every bit of what i've said. the school is being really unfair this way by not allowing students to choose what they want(in this way, not allowing students who wants icc as their first cca to take it up).

if equipping clubs and societies are so costly, then what about the other CCAs? doesn't their equipments and uniforms cost a lot more? they might as well close down all clubs then higher NEW people to mange all the PA system and everything(which would make them spend more money, and is completely naive).

i don't see why they should treat the clubs this way when all the other schools in SG can clearly afford clubs more than the rest of the CCAs. the school claims that they are in full support of every student in chasing their dreams. but in this scenario, the students that are in full pursuit of an information technology future is being put down and stopped. they are being held back from choosing icc as their first cca because the school demands that they want every student to take up a uniform group/performing arts/sports cca as their first choice.

given the cca schedule for each and every cca, the student will have less time for icc because first cca comes first. what if the dates for trainings clash? the student has no choice but to give icc up. is this supporting the student in chasing the IT dream?

the graduated seniors are very concerned about this matter, as we have placed in all our effort and so much of our time building this club to what it is today. and what the school has done this year is making all our hard work go to waste.

we hope to see a change and hear an explanation as soon as possible.
